Redistricting

The San Simeon Community Services District Board of Directors is changing the way that Board members are elected. Previously, Board members were elected "at-large," where each member is elected by voters throughout San Simeon. Under the new system, the Board members will be elected by-trustee-area; they will be required to live in the area they represent and will be elected only by the registered voters of that area.

In an effort to ensure compliance with the California Voting Rights Act, the District’s move to By-Trustee-Area elections is intended to address potential issues of underrepresentation among members of protected classes who live within the District’s boundaries.

Process

On January 11, 2021, the Board of Directors considered and adopted Resolution No. 2021-430, “A Resolution of the San Simeon Community Services District Declaring its intention to transition from at-large to District-Based Elections by November 2022”. The Board adopted the resolution by a vote of 4 to 1.

The District now will go through the process under the Elections Code to transition to by-trustee-area elections.
